Bigs and Littles Program (Community)

The Campus Mentoring Bigs (CMB) Program’s mission is dedicated to contributing to the retention of Black students at the University of Maryland, College Park. Through offering a personal relationship with the upper class student as well as a structured experience throughout the first year of college, the program strives to encourage persistence of students beyond the first and most difficult year of college The CMBs achieve the program’s mission through a focus on six areas of development Personal Development (Life/Transition/Financial) Leadership Development Academic Support & Development Career Development Social Development/Support Community Service The Black Student Union’s general body has the opportunity to participate in the Big/Little program in the following 2 capacities: 1) Big (Upperclassman Mentor) - Serve as mentor to assigned Little(s) by consistently keeping contact with them and taking their Little(s) to at least one event that falls under each of the five areas of development. 2) Little (Freshman Mentee) - Freshman meentees of the program.
